Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil will have surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb and miss about four weeks, coach David Culley said Wednesday.
The hope had been that Tunsil would be able to play through the torn UCL and put off surgery until the offseason.
He was injured in the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots and left the game. He was replaced by Geron Christian.
Tunsil, 27, made the Pro Bowl the past two seasons. He has started all 77 games he has played in since being taken No. 13 overall by the Miami Dolphins in the 2016 draft. He’s in his third season in Houston.
The Texans (1-4) and Colts (1-4) will meet Sunday in Indianapolis.
