Bruins sign D Grzelcyk to four-year, $14.75M extension

The Boston Bruins signed restricted free agent defenseman Matt Grzelcyk to a four-year, $14.75 million extension on Saturday.

An arbitration hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday for the 26-year-old Grzelcyk, who set career highs with four goals and 17 assists in 68 games in 2019-20.

Grzelcyk has 54 points (10 goals, 44 assists), a plus-45 rating and 126 penalty minutes in 197 games since making his NHL debut with Boston in 2016.

The Bruins selected the Massachusetts native in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft out of Boston University.

Grzelcyk is expected to replace the departed Torey Krug on the Boston’s top power-play unit in 2020-21. Krug signed a seven-year, $45.5 million deal with the St. Louis Blues in free agency.
