2019 No. 1 overall pick Hughes signs with Devils

The New Jersey Devils signed No. 1 overall pick Jack Hughes to an entry-level contract on Friday.

The contract is for three seasons and averages about $925,000 per season. There are also performance bonuses in the deal that could push the average annual value as high as $3.775 million.

Hughes, 18, played last season with the United States national development team, where he scored 34 goals and dished 78 assists in 50 games. He also played for the United States at the Under-18 World Championships and World Championships.

The Devils now have two of the last three No. 1 overall picks on their roster — the other being 2017 No. 1 pick Nico Hischier.
